(3) SWAMP Milkweed Plants (plug size)

Asclepias incarnata, also known as Swamp Milkweed, is an incredible companion plant for the Dahlia garden. Milkweed is an aphid trap crop, which means it will attract aphids and help deter them from colonizing your Dahlia plants.

Benefits of SWAMP Milkweed:

  • North American NATIVE PLANT that feeds many native pollinators and bees! It is perennial in Zone 3-9, drought tolerant (although it will thrive in wet areas), and loves the sun.

  • Milkweed is the only food source for Monarch butterfly larvae. Plant some milkweed to increase their food supply.

  • Swamp Milkweed has lovely deep pink flowers that hold up well after cutting!

  • Swamp Milkweed will grow tall, depending on soil conditions. Tolerates all soils.

  • Milkweed is a great companion plant for dahlias β€” it is an aphid Trap Crop β€” it will attract aphids and deter them from eating your Dahlia plants.

how to grow MILKWEED:

  • Plugs can be planted directly into the ground upon arrival. Water in deeply. Swamp Milkweed needs 18 inches of growing diameter in the garden and is great planted in the middle or back of the garden.

  • Plant in full to part sun (full sun plants will grow bigger and better). Can handle wet and dry soil.

  • Once established, Milkweed does not need water nor fertilizer
