Asclepias syriaca, also known as Common Milkweed, is an incredible companion plant for the Dahlia garden. Milkweed is an aphid trap crop, which means it will attract aphids and help deter them from colonizing your Dahlia plants.
Benefits of Common Milkweed:
North American NATIVE PLANT that feeds many native pollinators and bees! It is perennial in Zone 3-9, drought tolerant (although it will thrive in wet areas), and loves the sun.
Milkweed is the only food source for Monarch butterfly larvae. Plant some milkweed to increase their food supply.
Common Milkweed seed pods are edible!
Common Milkweed is a taller garden plant (3-4 ft height) that will spread β great for filling in empty areas in the yard, or add among your perennial shrubs.

how to grow MILKWEED:
Plugs can be planted directly into the ground upon arrival. Water in deeply. Common Milkweed needs 18 inches of growing diameter in the garden and it will spread (but the spread can be managed by pulling out new shoots).
Plant in full to part sun (full sun plants will grow bigger and better). Can handle wet and dry soil.
Once established, Milkweed does not need water nor fertilizer
