Bulk Flowers for DIY Weddings

how the bulk bucket came to be

Hello you adventurous, creative person! I’m Fran and I’m so happy you found my flower farm, Heirloom Soul Florals. We’ve been growing flowers organically and providing a gorgeous variety of floral offerings for our WNY community since 2018.

We began offering Bulk Buckets a few years ago when we realized people needed a more budget-friendly option for wedding flowers when the pandemic hit. So we expanded to a new field in 2022 and grew more flowers than we ever had before — in every variety, size, shape and color imaginable, hoping people would want our earth-loving blooms more than Wegmans, Trader Joe’s or online retailers.

It turns out, people have been so amazed by the beauty of our flowers that most of our blooms are now grown for Bulk Buckets! Growing flowers with tender love and care, and watching other people design with them, has brought us more joy than words can describe.

When you order our flowers, you support a healthy, thriving ecosystem for wildlife, including endangered pollinators, wild animals, and native plants. This part of our work is SO important and we wouldn’t be able to keep it up without selling flowers in bulk. So thank you, from us and the earth!

  • Will the flowers stay fresh for my wedding?

Yes! We would not offer this service if we were concerned about flowers wilting and dying before your event. Our flowers and greens are harvested the day before (or early morning of) your pickup day and are literally the freshest flowers you can possibly find. We harvest your flowers directly into sanitized buckets so they are only touched once. All varieties of flowers and greenery last for different amounts of time after cutting, but we aim to provide you with the hardiest blooms in our field that will last at least a few days after your event if properly cared for.

Where should I keep my flowers? Do I need a cooler?

We recommend simply keeping your flowers in an air conditioned room, out of direct sunlight. In cold months, do not put them in an unheated area where they may freeze. A floral cooler is not required, and in fact, we advise against putting your flowers in a refrigerator because the temperature may be too cold and/or ethylene from food items may make the flowers perish sooner.

When and where do I pick up my flowers?

Your flower and greenery buckets will be available to pickup the day before your event — we will coordinate a time together. You, and/or a designated helper, will pickup your flowers from our home studio in the City of Lockport. Please note, floral orders are NOT picked up at our farm.

How do I know if bulk flowers are right for me?

While the cost savings are great, DIY wedding flowers are a lot of work (hence the reason why florists charge so much). You will need willing helpers and enough time the day before your wedding to get everything done, along with other peoples’ help on your wedding day to set it all up. If you are a creative person who loves making things, or if you have other people who are willing to do the flowers for you, then this is a great option!

On the other hand, if you have a specific vision of a huge, professionally-designed floral display with very specific flower types, and you tend to be picky (which is totally okay — good for you for knowing what you want!) then I would say you should hire a florist to help make your wedding flower dreams come true.

  • Lets compare the cost savings of ordering Designed Centerpieces vs. DIY Bulk Flowers…

    25 bud vases = $375 -vs.- 1 DIY bucket

    …75% savings of $280

10 large mason jar centerpieces = $450 -vs.- 2 DIY buckets

    …60% savings of $270

10 vase centerpieces = $1,250 (average cost) -vs.- 5 DIY buckets

    …62% savings of $775

On average, you will save 60% or more of your floral budget if you DIY centerpieces for your event!

How many bulk buckets should I order?

This is the golden question, isn’t it? Since I get this question so often, I’ve written a helpful PDF guide that describes how many stems I use when designing wedding bouquets, basic centerpieces (mason jars & regular vases), laying loose greenery, and even how many flowers & greens you’ll need to set up a flower bar. You can download it by clicking the graphic below.
