(3) Butterfly Milkweed Plants (plug size)

Asclepias tuberosa, also known as Butterfly Milkweed, is an incredible companion plant for the Dahlia garden. Milkweed is an aphid trap crop, which means it will attract aphids and help deter them from colonizing your Dahlia plants.

Benefits of Butterfly Milkweed:

  • North American NATIVE PLANT that feeds many native pollinators and bees! It is perennial in Zone 3-9, drought tolerant, and loves the sun.

  • Milkweed is the only food source for Monarch butterfly larvae. Plant some milkweed to increase their food supply.

  • Incredible, unique cut flower. Our most popular perennial cut flower on our flower farm!

  • Garden specimen for the middle of the garden bed β€” also makes a great border plant.

  • Milkweed is a great companion plant for dahlias β€” it is an aphid Trap Crop β€” it will attract aphids and deter them from eating your Dahlia plants.

how to grow MILKWEED:

  • Plugs can be planted directly into the ground upon arrival. Water in deeply. Butterfly Milkweed needs 12 inches of growing diameter in the garden.

  • Plant in full to part sun (full sun plants will grow bigger and better).

  • Once established, Milkweed does not need water nor fertilizer
