Healthy, Nourishing Winter Hot Cocoa Recipe with Oat Milk, Raw Cacao, Turmeric, Black Pepper and Agave Nectar

On the shortest day of 2022 we’ll be making our favorite hot cocoa recipe to enjoy by the fire (okay, the Netflix fire, if we’re being honest).

This recipe has been adapted from one I found online a few years ago, and since then, I’ve made it my own.

This hot cocoa is warming and wholesome, made with healthful spices and raw cacao powder. Don’t skip the black pepper. It sounds weird to add black pepper to hot chocolate, but the pepper helps activate the curcumin in the turmeric. It’s a lovely combination! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

winter solstice cocoa for two

1 cup non-dairy milk

1 cup water

1/2 cup raw cacao powder

2 tbsp raw agave nectar

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

2 cracks of black pepper

Method: Heat water & milk together in a saucepan until simmering. Whisk in remainder of ingredients until smooth. Enjoy in front of a fire with lots of blankets and a cat on your lap.
